Naked Notes 18: Cup Runneth Over Right Into Downtime

Two big expansions coming up this Tuesday; Dominion for Eve and Southern Mirkwood for LOTRO.  Both on the same day; figure I'll be playing a lot of Borderlands on my 360 that day as we wait for the inevitable extensions of the downtime :) In lieu of that I'm alting in LOTRO, trying to save up the blue quests and higher for when it actually gives my main exp again.

The war continues in Eve, if you can call it that. Still no shooting has actually taken place. Management is considering whether to move the PVP wing over 2 regions and camp them vs hiring a merc unit to do it for us; as we figure drawing blood is the only way we're gonna get rid of the dec. Wish it would hurry, still haven't got to pull my Retriever out on a real op yet :)

Naked Notes 17: Ever Threw a War and No One Came?

Hard to tell what's going on on the war front. Corp held an Op tonight and went totally unmolested so far as I know. There's been no peep from the corp that decked us and no one has apparently shown up in our area of operations, so it looks like the week may pass without event. Very strange way to hold a war.

Thanksgiving event going on in WoW right now and still grinding faction and trying to finish up a bunch of grey quests in LOTRO. Unfortunately I'm working almost every day this week since the hospital doesn't close for Turkey Day. I know there will have to be some free time at some point in the future...

But I am off the night of the Corp mining op, so I'm assuming I'll be able to pull out my new Retriever :)

P.S. One good thing I can say about a war dec: it did make me take a look and realize my main's clone was out of date :)  Got it upgraded and sufficient to hold my skill points should lasers ever finally start flying.

Naked Notes 16: Drums of War

Well, the corp has been wardecced; the powers that be had been saying it was overdue. Very exciting :) never been in a wartime situation before. Looking forward to seeing what goes on and what we'll be doing. Our null sec division is already talking about jumping their ships into the area of operations in order to kick some ass :) Should be an intriguing week or two!

Hate being in the middle of a group of working days; still gonna be a day or two before I can jump on line for anything more than checking my skill queue. *sigh*

Naked Notes 15: All Along the Watchtowers

Well, with DUST in the distant horizon (ok, over the horizon and possibly not really even fuelled up and on the runway yet), I've been honing up on my FPS skills. I've always had a problem with using thumbsticks to aim so the more practice the better and DAMN if Borderlands isn't some good, fun practice :)

Finally Retriever enabled and have all the miners and drones for it so out this am to get a little hardcore (as it were) mining in.

Naked Notes 14: You Want It When ?!?

Been having a good time with my corp. They do a wonderful program of classes for the members in PvP and such, and last night was my first attendance. Looking forward to paying more attention to my work schedule in the future in order to attend my corporate operations. :)

In Lotro, am catching up with my bro on some old grey quests we have lying around to help clear them out of the journal. Even as a duo of level 60's, the 45+ level quests for a full fellowship of 6 ore tough.

Between that and a surplus of wonderful movies out lately, I'm afraid the fiction is taking a back seat... And I've been really trying to keep up for Write a Novel Month too  :(

Anyhoo, more coming out later.

Altered States

Dear Mom,

I killed someone today for the first time. Figure I won't beat around the bush; you always did hate that. The school sent me out on a mission to stop a vandal or saboteur or bored kid or whatever you want to call him; it doesn't matter. He fired on me and I killed him. Cause and effect, like you always told me when you were explaining thrusters, or the market.

I didn't think about it; I reacted on instinct, like the school taught me. I'd been worried when I first came out here about whether it was right or wrong, but none of that occurred to me when the firing started. I was surprised that it took such a short time; I thought it was much longer while it was happening. We fired until finally he quit, and I took his stuff.

What I don't understand is that I'm not sad or happy over it. That surprises me; that it doesn't matter whether he was a kid or not. He was the guy shooting at me. Is this a side effect of the books I've injected? Is this part of the  rewiring that virus is doing to me?

Anyway, that's how things are. Hope to hear back from you soon and hear you are doing well. Say hey to Dad.

***************************

I sat for a while after I finished, playing the message over again. The wreckage was drifting away, inertia carrying it off, eventually into deep space. They say the pod has made us immortal; that we can't die as long as we have a clone parked in a station somewhere. The pilot of that craft was a mere human, his meat still trapped in what was left of his ship; setting out on a journey of thousands and thousands of years probably. Would I still be around one day when he finally reached another system; would I be able to look in at his frozen, mangled body and say "I know you. You were my first" ?

"Close file." "Would you like me to send it now, Captain?" the ship asked. "I have found 200 Bailey Morels in the Luminaire system if you would like to--"

"Delete file. Confirm delete file." My parents probably wouldn't even open the file if it ever reached them; not since they'd found religion. I don't know if they'd even have understood it anymore. "Take us back to dock, ship. Contact my agent and let him know the mission is accomplished. Then prepare to uninstall me."

I felt like being with a mere human tonight, and having a real drink in my belly.
